Today, ADASS have published their 2024 Spring Survey, which reveals the stark financial realities Local Authorities face.
Professor Martin Green OBE, Chief Executive of Care England says:
“The survey results underscore the precarious state of adult social care in England, revealing that even with temporary funding boosts, Local Authorities are under immense financial strain. The £586 million overspend and the impending need to find £903 million in savings illustrate just how dire the situation is. The current funding levels are insufficient to support a robust and sustainable social care system.”
Professor Martin Green continues:
“The sustainability of the adult social care sector is intrinsically linked to the financial health of local Government. The findings from the ADASS survey highlight that current funding levels are insufficient to support a robust social care system. Local Authorities received a share of the Social Care Grant and the Market Sustainability and Improvement Fund, yet they are still forced to make unsustainable savings and manage demographic pressures with insufficient resources. The real-term deficit, exacerbated by inflation and staffing costs, leaves Local Authorities in a vulnerable position, operating on a financial knife-edge. Without significant and sustained investment from central Government, the future of social care is in jeopardy. The Government must heed these warning signs before it’s too late.”
