Home / Resources & Guidance / Care England VAT Webinar with Grant Thornton Material Package for Local Authorities and NHS Partners

On 19 January 2023, Care England hosted a webinar in collaboration with Grant Thornton UK LLP to discuss an opportunity for care providers to restructure the provision of welfare services, to make these VAT-efficient, and the role that local authorities/NHS partners and ICBs can play in this.  An overview of the opportunity can be found here.

As healthcare providers predominantly carry out exempt activities, they are precluded from reclaiming most of the VAT incurred on costs.  This can be a significant amount and with spiralling costs, the position is only exacerbated.

The objectives of the webinar were to raise awareness of the restructuring project, explain the VAT legislation behind the structure, answer any questions that these customers may have and provide a forum for any concerns and observations to be shared.  This was completed with a view to injecting significant additional funding into the sector and therefore supporting the progression towards the fair cost of care.
